“Tony Robbins made me realize it was all about how I perceived my actions, perceived myself, and could program the hard drive that is the brain.”
Hollywood power-producer Mark Burnett is living proof that Tony Robbins’ strategies work. In the late 1980s, Mark was hawking T-shirts on Venice Beach in Los Angeles, trying to scrape together enough cash to produce a television show. His unforgettable experience had not yet begun.
Today, he is living the American Dream. How did that happen?
Mark grew up in East London, a blue-collar neighborhood of hardworking residents, but not a lot of fame and fortune. The glitz and glamor of Los Angeles called to him, and he moved there in 1982 with no money and no job. There is no reward without risk, and he took that risk. He had the hunger and the work ethic – but what he didn’t have were strategies and mentors. That’s where Tony Robbins came in.
Mark’s unforgettable story began with cassette tapes. “I remember sitting on Venice Beach, reading Tony Robbins’ books and listening to cassette tapes – that’s how long ago it was,” Mark said. “Everybody can use a friend to push them along, and even though I didn’t know Tony, he came across as a friend.”
Mark was already working on his entrepreneurial skills – he just needed an unforgettable experience to turn his shoulds into musts. Twenty-eight years ago, Mark took his first firewalk, and he’s been applying Tony’s strategies to his life ever since.
Tony says, “The power of positive thinking is the ability to generate a feeling of certainty in yourself when nothing in the environment supports you.” Mark embodied this from the beginning. He had no investors and no industry support, but he had self-motivation. He came up with enough cash to buy the American television rights to a little show called Survivor. It was another huge risk – and a huge reward.
“You don’t need the greatest education in the world to have the right motivation and take action,” says Mark. Like Tony says, “Anybody can do it if you have the desire.”
Today, Mark continues to attend Tony Robbins events. Tony likes to say that “in life, the only thing that makes us happy is progress” – and Mark takes that advice to heart. He knows that continuing to grow and set new goals is necessary for lasting success. “We try to live an authentic life, but that doesn’t mean we’ve got it all covered all the time,” he said.
To level up, Mark aimed for his most unforgettable experience yet: bringing his wife, Roma Downey, and their three children to Unleash the Power Within. Tony’s strategies work for all ages, and young people especially can relate to – and benefit from – strategies like peer elevation and role modeling. Plus, it was just plain family fun: “We’ve been very blessed with abundance in our life and nothing could have been a better experience for me than having Roma and our three kids here with us,” said Mark.
Mark isn’t the only one who had an unforgettable experience at UPW. His wife Roma said, “This has been the most extraordinary few days.” For her, letting go of the stories she was telling herself has made her feel open and free. Taking this journey with her family was a powerful reminder that “courage is not the absence of fear – courage is having fear but still moving forward.”
Mark’s unforgettable story began in blue-collar London and led him to the pinnacle of Hollywood success — but he knows he has more to achieve. Attending Tony Robbins events helps Mark keep growing and reaching his next milestone – and they bring his family together, as well. Are you ready to achieve your goals? At Unleash the Power Within, Tony will inspire you to create the life of your dreams. It’s time to reach for the stars, just like Mark and Roma.
