We live in an increasingly competitive, changing world. Accelerating improvements in digital technology are reshaping our workplaces. Companies and entrepreneurs are looking for new and innovative ways to get ahead and crush the competition.
In this rapidly evolving environment, motivated leaders like yourself are seeking out mentors and coaches to help them tweak their strategies, lower their cost and increase their sales.
We are here to let you in on a little secret, a change in mindset that will not only help make your business more profitable but will increase your quality of life.
“Business is a spiritual game.”
Not in a religious or supernatural sense, but in the way that what we do daily is tied to the essence of what makes us human—our desire to make a difference and impact the world.
Community is part of our DNA. Helping others is the essence of civilization. No matter how fast technology evolves or how much our workplaces change, the drive to be a part of something bigger remains.
For thousands of years, humans have relied on each other for food, shelter, protection and community. Being connected to something greater than ourselves gives our lives purpose and meaning.
But how do you apply this drive for meaning to the daily grind of spreadsheets, emails, deadlines and Zoom calls?
Why does altruism matter to your business’s bottom line?
Because a greater purpose is what gives you, your company and your employees an edge with increased drive and energy.
Burnout and what to do about it
We are facing an epidemic of “quiet quitting.” Burnout rates are sky-high. In 2024, more than half of employees reported feeling burnout, with 37% reporting that their stress levels made it difficult to do their jobs.
Job stress is estimated to cost US businesses more than $300 billion due to decreases in productivity, workers not showing up and workplace accidents.
Stress and burnout can affect all levels of your organization and not only make work less enjoyable but make you less profitable as well.
Our natural impulse when facing stress and burnout is to pull back and retreat. We feel like the answer is to do LESS.
In reality, this approach just leaves us feeling emptier. By pulling back, we bring even less of ourselves to the table. Burnout is a symptom of not aligning with our true purpose in life. We are here on this earth to make an impact, and no matter how much self-care we indulge in, we will continue to go through life feeling empty and unfulfilled, unless there’s a greater meaning to our days.
Time management expert and researcher Laura Vanderkam wrote:
“The opposite of burnout isn’t doing nothing or even scaling back. It’s engagement.”
The key to combating burnout and energizing your business is to find your WHY.
If you are here reading this blog, it likely means you are a driven, highly motivated achiever. But if your sole focus each day is chasing a bigger profit, you are missing out on life’s deepest joy and opportunity.
You are going to work, but you aren’t doing the greater work that gives life purpose.
Find ways to use your skills and passions to create a product and build a business that makes a positive impact on your community and the world.
Not every job is going to be inherently meaningful. But that doesn’t mean you can’t find new ways to contribute and give each day.
How can you bring meaning? Where can you lean in and foster greater connection?
This might look like creating a company culture where your employees can grow and thrive.
It might look like building regular contributions into your business plan. Making money feels great, but nothing can compare to the joy we feel when we make a positive impact on someone’s life.
“You can be wildly profitable and serve others.”
When you are feeling tired, stressed and even tight on funds, that’s the time to lean into connection, engagement and giving. The secret to business success is psychology, and nothing jump starts your emotions more than meaningful connection.
Giving has incredible power to increase our motivation, drive us to creative solutions, and find untapped reservoirs of strength and energy.
“Whatever you give will always come back to you.”
When Tony Robbins was 17 years old, he was living out of his car, struggling to make ends meet, and trying to find purpose in life. Overwhelmed with anger and frustration and at a breaking point, he started to focus on what he wanted in life instead of the circumstances he found himself in. He started asking himself what greater purpose he was striving for.
At the time, he had $26 left to his name and went into an all-you-can-eat buffet so he could make the most of his last dollars and at least fill up on food. As Tony sat down to eat, something caught his eye. A little boy walked into the restaurant, holding the door open for his mom and pulling out her chair for lunch. Tony was deeply moved by the loving, giving nature of this little boy.
Tony was so touched that after paying his bill, he only had maybe $17 left. He walked over to the boy and told him: “I just want to acknowledge what an extraordinary gentleman you are. I saw how you treated your lady, held the door for her and pulled out the chair for her. That’s class.”
The boy replied, “It’s my mom. I’m not really taking her out. I don’t have a job, and I’m only 11.”
And Tony said, “Yes, you can.” He reached into his pocket, giving the boy his last $17 so the boy could pay for his mom’s lunch and walked away.
Tony should have been freaking out. He had no idea how he was going to pay for his next meal. But he wasn’t. He felt a great weight lift off his shoulders. He didn’t succumb to fear because he had broken out of his scarcity mindset, let go of expectations and discovered a greater meaning in life.
When he got home, Tony got a letter in the mail returning $1,000 he had lent a friend. It was enough to get him by for the next few months. In that moment, he committed himself to giving to others, even in times of scarcity. He wrote in his journal: “The secret to living is giving.”
You don’t need to wait until you are making tons of money to contribute, and giving doesn’t need to detract from your profitability. Giving, success, and fulfillment go hand in hand.
“Whatever you give will always come back to you.”
Money will only get you so far. Finding a greater purpose in your company and finding new ways to engage and give back will energize your employees, combat stress and add to your bottom line.
Where can you foster connection on a deeper level?
What changes can you make to find meaning in your daily work?
How can you make giving an integral part of your company values?
Unlock your company’s potential by leaning into a deeper purpose, give whole-heartedly, and there’s no limit to how far it takes you.
