I want you to imagine something for a moment: What if the single biggest factor standing between you and the life you dream of is your ability to focus? I’ve seen it time and time again—people with incredible potential, brilliant ideas, and unstoppable drive, yet they’re pulled in a hundred directions, losing their edge. “Where focus goes, energy flows.” This isn’t just a catchy phrase; it’s the foundation of every breakthrough I’ve witnessed on stage, in boardrooms, and in the lives of millions around the world.

But here’s the truth: mastering your focus is the ultimate power move. When you learn how to harness your attention, you unlock a reservoir of energy, creativity, and productivity that propels you beyond what you thought possible.
I’ve built my life and career on this principle. Every morning, I prime my mind and body to laser-focus on what matters most.

Tony’s Story:
Early in my journey, I struggled with mornings like many people do—groggy, distracted, and unfocused. Then I discovered the power of a morning ritual, which I call “priming.” Every morning, I spend 10 minutes focusing on gratitude, breathing deeply, and visualizing my goals as already achieved. This practice rewires my nervous system and sets my energy for the entire day. I remember the first time I did this before a big event—I walked on stage feeling unstoppable, fully present, and energized. That’s the power of starting strong. \

Your morning sets the tone for your entire life.
2. Focus on your outcomes
As Tony says, “If you have a big enough why, you will figure out the how.” Learning how to stay focused on goals is all about relating the task at hand back to your ultimate purpose in life. How does this task help you reach the outcome you desire? Visualize yourself completing the task and reaching your goals. Then take a few deep breaths and do it.
Tony’s Insight:
I’ve coached countless athletes, CEOs, and entrepreneurs who have incredible talent but lack direction. The difference between those who succeed and those who don’t is clarity of purpose. I always ask, “What’s your compelling reason? What’s the fire in your belly?” When you connect every task to a bigger why, you unlock a level of focus and determination that moves mountains. One CEO told me, “When I found my why, I stopped procrastinating and started producing.” That’s the secret:

3. Make a mantra
Incantations are a powerful way to reset your mind and stay focused. Tony has used them since he was young and continues to use them before his public speaking engagements. A mantra for how to stay focused might be something like, “I will put all my focus on this task because it is going to help me live the life I deserve!” Say it out loud and with enthusiasm. You’ll change your physiology and find focus.
Tony’s Practice:
Since I was a kid, I’ve used incantations—powerful affirmations said with emotion and movement—to shift my state instantly. Before every major speech or challenge, I say something like, “I am powerful, I am unstoppable, I am ready.” I don’t just say the words—I embody them with my posture, my voice, and my breath. This practice rewires your brain and body, creating a new identity. I remember one event where, moments before walking on stage, I felt fear creeping in. I dropped into my incantation, and within seconds, that fear transformed into excitement and confidence. You can do the same.

Getting distracted by texts or feeling tempted to check social media for the tenth time today? Mute your phone and place it face down on your desk, then close your Facebook browser tab. There are even apps and extensions you can install that can block Facebook, Twitter, Wikipedia and any other websites you choose. If it’s coworkers interrupting, put up a “Do Not Disturb” sign or close your door. They can wait.
Tony’s Realization:
I used to be a slave to my phone—constantly checking messages, emails, and social media. It was stealing my focus and energy. One day, I decided to schedule “no phone” times during my day and noticed an immediate boost in productivity and presence. I could dive deep into my work and connect more fully with the people around me. I always say, “The quality of your life is the quality of your focus,” and distractions steal that quality every time. Protect your attention like it’s your most valuable asset—because it is.
5. Eliminate vices
Do you reach for a cup of coffee every time you feel yourself slowing down? Or smoke when you are stressed out? Or maybe you like to have a late-night glass of wine and it affects your sleep quality. All of these things work against your ability to stay focused – yes, including having more than one cup of coffee a day. Eliminate bad habits and you’ll discover how to stay focused in a healthy way.
Tony’s Challenge:
For years, I relied on caffeine and sugar to push through long days. But I realized these habits were draining my energy and clouding my focus. When I committed to raising my standards, I cut out excess caffeine and refined my diet. The results were profound: clearer thinking, sustained energy, and sharper focus.
“If you want to change your life, you have to raise your standards.” — Tony Robbins
That means cutting out habits that hold you back and replacing them with empowering rituals.
6. Don’t multitask
There’s no such thing as multitasking – you’re just doing multiple things poorly. That’s because every time we switch tasks, a little of our attention remains behind. It’s a phenomenon called “attention residue,” and it’s why studies have found that multitaskers have worse attention spans and memory capacity than non-multitaskers. To truly achieve, stay focused on one task at a time.
Tony’s Insight:
Multitasking is a myth that’s been glorified but it actually diminishes your effectiveness. Every time you switch tasks, your brain leaves behind a residue that fragments your attention. I coach people to single-task with intensity—giving their full focus to one thing at a time.
“You can do anything, but not everything.” — Tony Robbins
When you commit to deep focus on one priority, your results multiply exponentially. I’ve seen entrepreneurs double their output simply by eliminating multitasking.
Are your efforts moving you forward or just keeping you busy?
You won’t be able to clear your mind and focus if your space is cluttered and noisy. Certain sounds, like cars honking or people arguing, can cause the release of cortisol, the stress hormone. Wear headphones or find a quiet place to work. Organize your workspace and decorate it in a way that’s inspiring. Always work from this place when you really need to stay focused. Your brain will get “in the zone” faster.
Tony’s Experience:
When I’m in my peak state, my environment is clean, energized, and inspiring. I’ve learned that your surroundings either fuel your focus or sabotage it. At my events, I encourage people to create “power zones”—spaces that signal to your brain it’s time to perform. Whether it’s a quiet room, noise-canceling headphones, or a tidy desk, your environment shapes your mental state. “Your environment shapes your destiny.” Make yours one that propels you forward.
8. Have a plan
It’s not enough to make a to-do list and hope you get around to it. You need to set achievable, SMART goals everyday that will help get you where you want to be. Tony’s Rapid Planning Method (RPM) is much more than a checklist. It breaks down your goals by month, week and day, relating everything back to your ultimate outcome so you’re sure to stay focused.
Tony’s Method:
My Rapid Planning Method (RPM) is a strategic framework that goes beyond to-do lists. It helps you focus on outcomes, not just tasks. I’ve seen countless clients transform their productivity by breaking down their goals into monthly, weekly, and daily action steps that align with their ultimate vision. RPM keeps you laser-focused on what truly matters. When you plan with purpose, distractions fade and momentum builds.
RPM isn’t time or task management—it’s life design. Gain the clarity, momentum, and tools to take control and design a life on your terms.
Wondering how to stay focused? Take a break. It seems contradictory, but scheduled breaks actually improve focus by giving the brain a chance to recharge. Make sure it’s a real break: Step away from your desk. Go for a walk. Read a book. If you’re using your “break” to check emails or chat about a project, you won’t get the full benefits that come from relaxing your mind.
Tony’s Wisdom:
Energy flows where attention goes, but even energy needs renewal. I schedule breaks to recharge my mind and body—whether it’s a walk, meditation, or simply stepping away from work. These breaks aren’t indulgences; they’re strategic moves to sustain peak performance. I’ve coached athletes and CEOs who swear by this rhythm of intense focus followed by intentional rest. It’s a cycle that fuels long-term success.
